چکیده
Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in which disease is restricted to the craniospinal axis [1]. Ocular involvement can occur in 10-20% of cases and leptomeningeal disease is documented in 20-30%. PCNSL represents 2% of all lymphoma diagnoses (and 3% of all brain tumour presentations) and the incidence is reported in the range of 4 cases/million person-years. The only known risk factor for PCNSL development is congenital or acquired immunodeficiency. In the recent era of highly active antiretroviral therapy use, a dramatic reduction in incidence of immunodeficiencyassociated PCNSL has occurred, correlating with a decline in the proportion of HIV-infected individuals with CD4+ cell counts less than 50/mm3 [2]. The majority of this document will focus on the management of PCNSL in immunocompetent individuals with a brief discussion of HIV-associated PCNSL. A practice guideline on the management of PCNSL has been published by the British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH) www.bcshguidelines.com [3]. The Odette Cancer Centre Hematology Site Group endorses this document.

NEURO IMAGING OF CNS LESIONS IN AIDS
Background: The aim of this study was to review and characterize the pattern of CNS lesions in patients suffering from AIDS and to correlate these patterns with clinical disorders. Method: The MR scan, medical records and laboratory findings of 58 AIDS patients were reviewed retrospectively during April 1994 to November 1997 at the Olive view/UCLA and Shiraz Medical Centers, and the patterns o...

Purpose: Homing of malignant lymphocytes to the central nervous system (CNS) may play a role in the pathogenesis of CNS lymphoma. In this study, we evaluated the chemokines CXCL12 and CXCL13 in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum of patients with CNS lymphoma. Experimental Design: Samples from 30 patients with CNS lymphoma (23 with primary and 7 with secondary CNS lymphoma; all B-cell lymph...
متن کاملPresumptive primary intraocular lymphoma presented as an intraocular mass involving the optic nerve head
Primary intraocular lymphoma (PIOL) is a subset of primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma which initially presents in the eye with or without simultaneous CNS involvement (1). It is considered a variant of extranodal, non-Hodgkin lymphoma that is usually of an aggressive diffuse large B cell type (1–3). Diagnosis of PIOL requires histopathologic evidence of malignant lymphoma cells in br...
متن کاملProteomic changes in cerebrospinal fluid from primary central nervous system lymphoma patients are associated with protein ectodomain shedding
Primary central nervous system lymphomas (PCNSLs) are mature B-cell lymphomas confined to the central nervous system (CNS). Blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction drastically alters the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteome in PCNSL patients. To reveal the interaction of PCNSL tumors with CNS structures and the vasculature, we conducted a whole-proteome analysis of CSF from PCNSL patients (n = 17 a...
متن کاملFinal results of a multicenter trial addressing role of CSF flow cytometric analysis in NHL patients at high risk for CNS dissemination.
This prospective study compared diagnostic and prognostic value of conventional cytologic (CC) examination and flow cytometry (FCM) of baseline samples of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in 174 patients with newly diagnosed aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). FCM detected a neoplastic population in the CSF of 18 of 174 patients (10%), CC only in 7 (4%; P < .001); 11 patients (14%) were discordant ...
